Bamboo Flooring FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

  1. Why Bamboo flooring?
    • By using bamboo, we do not diminish hardwood forests that have taken decades to mature, and we help to preserve the habitat of our often endangered wildlife. Bamboo produces new shoots each year and individual stems are harvested from controlled forests every three to five years.
  2. What does Bamboo flooring looks like?
    • Many people are pleasantly surprised to see that bamboo flooring has the durable, clean look of hardwood floors, but contains a finer, more unique grain pattern.
  1. Does Bamboo floor cost more than other hardwoods?
    • Bamboo is priced competitively with hardwood alternatives. Pricing is dependent on the style, color, and the size of your order.
  2. How durable is Bamboo floor?
    • This very hard and very durable material is an average of 13% harder than maple. It is 27% harder than northern red oak and expands and contracts 50% less. Most people with pets find it harder and longer lasting that most other floor coverings.
  3. How is Bamboo flooring made?
    • After at least 3 years of growth the bamboo's hollow round shoots are sliced into strips, which are boiled to remove the starch. The strips are dried and laminated into solid boards, which are then milled into flooring boards. The bamboo is treated with preservative, either before it is laminated, after, or both. It is dipped once for complete coverage with a low-toxic acrylic urethane featuring UV inhibitors. This process reinforces bamboo's natural resistance to water, mildew, and insects.
  4. Is bamboo flooring installation similar to hardwood flooring installation?
    • Yes. Installations are the same.
  5. If the surface of bamboo flooring is scratched, is it repairable?
    • Yes. If it is a light scratch, use the fine-grade sandpaper. If the damage is more severe, use an electric sanding tool and then refinish.
